This page is to give you all the information you need about how to go about applying for a Zoo Crew position.

Application Process:

All applicants must be at least 13-17 years of age.

Applications must include a filled out application form , 100+ word, typed original essay on why you are interested in becoming a Zoo Crew member, two letters of reference from non-related adults (age 18+) who know you well – teachers, guidance counselors, scout leaders, etc.

We will be accepting application for 2010 Zoo Crew starting December 29, 2009

Once your application has been received, if we chose to interview you, you will be notified as to the date and time. Interviews are 10-15 minutes long.

Join us for an informational Open House

December 29 from 11am – 1pm.

Meet some of the crew, ask questions and find out what the program is all about. You can even fill out a crew application on the spot.

RSVP is required. Contact the Education Department at: 774-203-1843 to register.

PLEASE NOTE: Regular admission fees apply

First Year Crew are eligible to work in the following tracks. All tracks operate 7 days a week from June through August, and each participant will be assigned days each week. The shift times of each track are noted with each explanation.

On-Site Naturalists (ON) (21) – Visitors are the most important part of any zoo or aquarium, and participants in this track will learn what it takes to enhance the visitor experience. Tasks include manning education stations, educating visitors with non-living biofacts, and discussing conservation challenges. Sunday to Saturday, 11 AM – 3 PM

Zoo Camp Assistant (ZCA) (10) – If you enjoy working with children, this is the track for you. Participants will learn how to teach about animals and conservation through creative play while helping out with the zoo’s summer camp programs Monday to Thursday, 9 AM – 3 PM, Friday 2 PM – 8 PM

Visitor Service Specialist (VSA) – This track is for those who are interested in working with the public AND using their creative side. Tasks will include face painting and daily ‘play station’ programs for children. Sunday to Saturday, 11AM – 3PM

Teen Volunteer Open House Capron Park Zoo

Attleboro, MA – November 12, 2009: Are you a teen that enjoys interacting with people and working with the public?  Capron Park Zoo is offering an informational open house for any community teen interested in learning more about volunteer opportunities in the CPZ ‘Zoo Crew’ program.

 

The open house will run from 11 AM to 1 PM on December 29. Teens interested in volunteering can and ask questions, talk to Zoo Crew members and get an idea of what the program is all about. Applications will be available during the open house.

There is a lot of competition for Zoo Crew spots, so we cannot guarantee a spot to every applicant. Get your applications in early! Good Luck!

    i am very interested in working and or volunteering at capron park zoo. I am 16 years old and a student at attleboro high school, i was just wondering if there is anything i could so during the school year?

      There will most likely be an open house at some point during the year for applicants to see how everything works, and get a chance to meet senior crew. Im not sure of this, but applicants may also get a chance to do a little bit of interpreting at the open house. Other than that, there aren’t any during the school year oppurtunities until after one summer of crew. If you have any more questions, any of us would be glad to answer them.
